Graduate of BA Film Studies at the University of Essex and Mdes Sound for the Moving Image at The Glasgow School of Art, Alex is an audiovisual artist/ filmmaker. Alex has started using sound in his practice as a central element since arriving in Glasgow, collaborating with musicians and artists coming from diverse backgrounds to create innovative music videos and moving image works.
Recently he has been commissioned by Cryptic Glasgow and UNFIX Festival to develop his practice and expand collaborations. Alex will start his Supporting Artists Residency, creating art with and for the community in Govanhill expressing his multidisciplinary filmmaking abilities. I always aspire for poetic connection where the feeling is heightened and the spectator is made more active.
Being interested in time and memory: both cultural and individual, my practice is conceptually orientated using collaborative techniques with Glasgow-based artists. Thus, expressing an audiovisual flow that processes a self, created in the film through symbolic representations and performances grounded in understanding the dialectical relationship between social existence and cultural practice.
The image of my works is neither subjective nor objective but a process of transformation creating cinematic meaning while the sound is empathetic driving the story forward. For the communities recovering from the pandemic, art will inform structures of perception and will exist in audiences’ imagination so they could recover external phenomena.
